Officer Joseph A. Doucette – Cranston Police

Ptl. Joseph A. Doucette

     Patrolman Joseph A. Doucette was appointed to the Cranston Police Department on December 1, 1941, just six days before the United States entered WWII.  He left the department to serve in the army during the war, and later rejoined the CPD.  He served the the citizens of Cranston for 25 years before retiring in 1967.  He passed away on September 2, 1994 at the age of 79.  He was a communicant at St. Ann’s Church, a member of the IBPO, and the DAV chapter 10. He’s buried in Highland Memorial Park  in Johnston.

Sergeant Charles W. Beckman – Cranston Police

Sgt. Charles W. Beckman

     Sergeant Charles W. “Chuck” Beckman served the citizens of Cranston for 30 years before retiring in 1986.  He passed away on March 27, 1995 at the age of 61.  He was survived by his wife and five children, nine grandchildren, and his mother.

Lieutenant Earl P. Tucker, Sr. – Cranston Police

     Lieutenant Earl P. Tucker, Sr., passed away on May 12, 1995 at the age of 82. He was appointed to the CPD on November 12, 1942.   He was the first president of the Fraternal Order of Police for Cranston.  He retired in 1967 at the rank of Lieutenant.

Detective William S. Holihen – Cranston Police

     It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Detective William S. Holihen who passed away on December 27, 1995 while at the Jane Brown Hospital in Providence, RI.  Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Joseph and Gertrude (Faust) Holihen.  After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, Bill was appointed to the department on December 3, 1956 and retired on January 6, 1987 while achieving the rank of Detective within the Cranston Police Department.  In his spare time when he was not solving cases for the PD, he loved playing golf, travelling and spending time with his family, and just relaxing in front of the TV.  He is survived by his wife Elizabeth A. Holihen; his son Willaim R. Holihen and his wife Joanne; his daughter Gina M. Holihen, Grandaughter Taylor L. Holihen; and two brothers Joseph and John Holihen.  Hit them straight Bill and know we are thinking of you.

Detective Sergeant Paul Saccoccia, Sr. – Cranston Police

     Detective Sergeant Paul Saccoccia, Sr., (67), passed away on April 4, 1996.  He was the husband of Marie (Moretti) Saccoccia, and father of retired CPD lieutenant Paul Saccoccia, Jr.  Det. Sgt. Saccoccia served with the CPD for 34 years before retiring in 1988.  He was an Army veteran of World War II and a Navy veteran of the Korean War.  In 1971 he graduated with a degree in law enforcement from Salve Regina College.  He’s buried in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery in Exeter.
