Lieut. Paul Soscia

     Lieutenant Paul Soscia was a lifelong resident of Cranston.  He was appointed to the CPD on December 28, 1942.  He was promoted to sergeant in 1953, and to lieutenant on August 28, 1961. He served the citizens of Cranston for 27 years before retiring in 1969.   Lt. Soscia passed away on April 25, 1996 and is buried in St. Ann’s Cemetery in Cranston. 

     Rest in peace.

     Detective Rocco Mariorenzi served the citizens of Cranston for 34 years before retiring in 1988.  He was the first officer to use a “voice print” as evidence in a police case.  He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

     He passed away on May 22, 1996 at the age of 66, and is buried in Swan Point Cemetery in Providence.

Sgt. Thomas Lanzi

     Sergeant Thomas Lanzi served the citizens of Cranston for 22 years before retiring in 1977.  He earned a B.S. degree in Law Enforcement from Salve Regina College.  He was also served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. 

     In 1964, he was instrumental in starting the International Brotherhood of Police Officers, and served as its first president.   He was also a member of the R. I. State Democratic Committee. 

     He passed away on November 6, 1996 at the age of 64.

Sergeant Tom Lanzi – 1972

     It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Detective Henry V. Crudale who passed away on May 28, 1997 after a short illness.  He was the son of Laura (DiMuccio) Crudale and the late Henry A. Crudale.A graduate of Cranston High School in 1960, he joined the Cranston Police Department on September 8, 1965 and retired on June 28, 1996 after completing 31 years of dedicated service to the department.  Henry was also a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Bryant College where he received a Bachelors degree of Science in Law Enforcement.  He was an active member of the I.B.P.O., the Cranston Police Relief Association, and former member of the Elks Lodge of Johnston.  He also served in the RI Army National Guard and was a member of the State Investigative Unit during the Credit Union crisis from 1991-1992.  Besides his wife Beverly (Mitchell) Crudale, he is survived by his loving children, Henry J. and Bethany Liberatore of Cranston and two grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Jane DiSanto.  He is also the brother to the late James Crudale.  He will be greatly missed by all.

     Detective Lieutenant William E. Walsh passed away on June 14, 1997 at the age of 67.  He was born in Cranston, the son of William J. Walsh, formerly of the CPD, and Margaret E. (Carter) Walsh. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, and a graduate of Salve Regina University.  He served the citizens of Cranston for 30 years before retiring in 1985.  He’s buried in St. Ann’s Cemetery.
